The Me First And The Gimme Gimmes are is a punk super-group band who have been entertaining audiences with their covers for thirty years: be it motown, country or even Japanese pop, they've also ruined quinceaneras and bar-micvos. But they have never been to Budapest. So far, on 1 June, they're kicking off the four sides of the Dürer Kert with their crazy songs.
Me First and The Gimme Gimmes are made up of punk legends like John Reis of Rocket from the Crypt, Joey Cape of the celebrated Lagwagon scoundrel, Pinch of The Damned, Fat Mike of NOFX and CJ Ramone of a little band called The Ramones - which you may have heard of - with Spike Slawson rounding out the line-up. And if duty calls one of the band members to their another band, you can be sure that a travelling Gimme will step in to fill in: Jonny "2 Bags" Wickersham from Social Distortion, Jay Bentley from Bad Religion, Stacey Dee from Bad Cop/BadCopare, and the occasional guitar appearance from Jake Kiley of Strung Out. In Hungary, he will also be replacing Joey Cape.
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes have always operated like a beer-hall Pussycat Dolls, like a regular, mortal band. They had the misfortune to ruin Johnny's bar mitzvah in 2004 - preserved on their Ruin Jonny's Bar Mitzvah concert album - and then ruined another party in 2024, which resulted their album Blow it...at Madison's Quinceañera!
With seven studio albums, two live recordings, and too many songs to count, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes have tried out themself at every genre. Playing Motown, country, show tunes and Japanese pop (sung in Japanese!), these seasoned punk-rock-bred pros have flawlessly taken the challenge and punked the songs every time. With such an extensive and diverse catalogue of music, what can they do? They bring the songs to life in concert, of course! Me First and the Gimme Gimmes are heading to Europe this summer and luckily the super group will finally be playing in Budapest on 1st of June at Dürer Kert. Tickets for the concert go on sale on 4th April at 12.
