The Streets ended their career more than 10 years ago, but Mike Skinner's new music and film project The Darker The Shadow The Brighter The Light has brought the legendary British garage, hip-hip band back to life. And they're back in the gigging game too, so on 22nd June you'll have the chance to get your groove on to Skinner's unrivalled songs live at the Akvárium Klub.
The Streets was disbanded in 2011 to focus on Mike Skinner's other projects. Nearly 10 years later, however, the album and feature film The Darker The Shadow The Brighter The Light, previously used only as a stage name, revived the powerful early 2000s act. The Streets formed in Birmingham in 1994, although their first songs were not released until the early 2000s, several of which made the UK Top 40 charts and they are regarded as one of Britain's most important hip-hop, garage and grime acts, particularly for Skinner's storytelling lyrics and his working-class 'Cockney' accent. Skinner finally revived The Streets in 2017 after the band's disbandment, first with the release of the mixtape None of Use Are Getting Out of This Life Alive, and then returning with The Darker The Shadow The Brighter The Light in 2023, the band's sixth studio album.
The Darker The Shadow The Brighter The Light is also a feature film that took 7 years to make, of which Skinner is also director, producer, writer, editor, composer and star. And, of course, the composer of the soundtrack album. The film takes you through the nightclubs of London on a crazy night out. Now we can join him on this journey at The Streets' first Budapest show on 22nd June at the Akvárium Klub. Tickets for the concert will go on sale first to registered Live Nation members on 19th February at 10am, with general ticket sales opening on 21st February at 10am.
