Winter wonderland - Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Budapest is preparing again this year with unique festive offers

10 December 2024

Matild Palace is creating a winter wonderland for this festive season, where a unique and modern combination of huge glass icicles and giant pearl ornaments will amaze visitors along with golden accessories that radiate elegance. Budapest's premier luxury hotel will make the Christmas period unforgettable again this year with special gastronomic offerings, such as the traditional takeaway turkey dinner, festive brunches and Christmas dinners at Spago Budapest.

Between 1st and 23rd December, the team at Spago by Wolfgang Puck Budapest, nestled within the walls of the luxury hotel, will be preparing an unparalleled three-course festive menu featuring the finest seasonal ingredients and the true essence of the festive season. The home-cured salmon is followed by Irish mangalitsa cheek stew, served with ewe cheese spaetzle “sztrapacska” and malt crunch, and the chestnut mousse with cherry liqueur, winter spices and milk chocolate is a festive dessert at its best. Of course, on Christmas Eve, 24th December, the restaurant will be open for an unforgettable dinner, where Executive Chef István Szántó will guide guests through a festive 4-course dinner combining the best of Christmas traditions with innovative flavours. Each course has been designed to capture the magic of the season, making every bite a truly enjoyable moment, giving the true grandeur of the holiday. After the welcome bites, as an appetizer, you can choose duck liver terrine with dried plums, traditional 'korhely' fish soup with homemade trout ravioli, or vegetarian baked stuffed cabbage with smoked cheese and dill. The saffron Milanese risotto that follows will be a nice accompaniment to the main course, which could be venison fillet with winter root vegetables or pan-seared salmon fillet with mangold, fregola and rose pepper sauce. Desserts include a chestnut Christmas log with candied nuts, bread pudding with rum-raisin ice cream and eggnog, or vegan coconut panna cotta with tangerine and lemongrass.

Takeaway turkey feast - Festive Spago menu for home

For those who would prefer to enjoy a festive menu in the warmth of their own home, this year again there is the option to order a set menu ideal for 6-8 people from Spago Budapest between 21 to 26 December. The Christmas feast kicks off with roasted pumpkin soup, where pumpkin, crunchy bread and pumpkin seeds make a heart-warming combination. The highlight of the menu is the whole-roasted norfolk bronze turkey, a true masterpiece from the local team of world-renowned chef Wolfgang Puck. The juicy poultry is accompanied by creamy ratte potato purée, sautéed green vegetables with bacon, braised red cabbage with apple and mulled wine, and of course the traditional herb stuffing. All this is accompanied by cranberry sauce and roasted turkey gravy sauce to complete the harmony of flavours. And the cherry on top of the menu is the special desserts, homemade pies, which can be ordered in pumpkin, apple or pecan versions. The menu can also be ordered with a wine pairing, with either the creamy, full-bodied Chardonnay-style Wolfgang Puck Master Lot Reserve Chardonnay, or the red Wolfgang Puck, Pinot Noir Master Lot, which has a fuller character with concentrated cherry, juicy plum and cocoa notes.

Festive brunches - the season to shine

The Sundays of Advent hold a special place within the festive season and Spago Budapest strives to make these days even more special. During the advent season, they are preparing special festive brunches, where every bite, from their carefully selected seasonal delicacies to traditional favourites, brings the warmth and magic of the holidays.  A special punch and mulled wine corner captures the essence of the season, while children are welcomed with exciting activities, a special children's menu, hot chocolate and waffle making. The restaurant will also host two Wednesday festive brunches: a Christmas brunch on 25th December and a New Year's brunch on 1st January to make the last and first moments of the year special.
