Budapest Wine Festival returns with a special edition this year: due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fest will shrink a little in terms of size, and will welcome wine connoisseurs at the Hunyadi Courtyard of Buda Castle with prime wine and food selection, high quality programs and a lounge atmosphere on September 10-13.
Excellent wines
Despite the limited size, organizers guarantee a premium selection where everyone can find their favorites. Here comes a tiny teaser: High quality Italian proseccos, traditional Hungarian sparkling wines, in addition to Moët&Chandon and Dom Perignon Champagnes will fulfil the summer-end desire for refreshing cool bubbles. DiVino offers a youthful, vivid, colourful selection; WineAge mesmerizes with excellent foreign wines; while SPAR Hungary flaunts the finest pieces of its sortiment. Csaba Koch, Winemaker of the Year, represents two wine regions. Péter Baranyai and Zsolt Maul boasts with VinAgora price-winning wines. Furthermore, the wine regions of Szekszárd and Pannonhalma, the Tiffán Winery of Villány, and Bognár Winery are also preparing with an exclusive selection for the festival.
Gastronomy at its best
Special grill dishes complement the fantastic wine selection and summer-end vibe of the festival. Gléda Restaurant uses cutting-edge grilling equipment to prepare their most delicious dishes such as grilled Mangalica pork chuck with fresh Hungarian ratatouille, and pulled duck burger. Sparhelt Bistro and Szomszéd Kertje create a garden party atmosphere in the Buda Castle with specialities for every taste bud, including marinated fish, roasted beef, a special sausage selection, and more. SZEGA Camembert amazes guests with their finest cheeses and cured hams. If visitors want to indulge their sweet tooth, Bolka Bonbon will wait for them with special desserts, and with a selection for real gourmets.
Music and fun
A plethora of musicians will guarantee the pulse-quickening rhymes on the four days of Budapest Wine Festival Limited. On Thursday, visitors will be captivated by Canarro’s 20s/30s swing and jazz music, and Cimbaliband’s world-famous Balkan-style rock’n’roll beats. On Friday, Rustico trio makes the various melodies of the Carpathian basin come alive, Babra creates new musical formulas from the thousand-faced Balkan traditions, and Dresch String Quartet presents their composition of ethno jazz and folk music. Saturday will be dedicated to Gáspár Károly Trió’s unique jazz compositions, Terra Profonda’s visionary American blues and dramatic songs, and Zoord’ elementary Moldovan Csángó melodies. Saturday will be crowned by Ötödik Évszak Minimál Trió’s positive, playful lines, and Erdőfű’s Hungarian ethnic string folk music.
Let’s play!
SPAR Hungary, the main sponsor of the festival and a promoter of domestic wine culture, offers every fourth drink for free at their stand, where they exclusively sell a SPAR selection of premium wines. The SPAR Wine Catalogue’s great deals are available on September 2-23. Those who participate in their online game ‘Bormustra’, will have the chance to win a fantastic one- or two-night cellar visits with wine tasting.
